Overview

The Global Peace Foundation (GPF) is an international nonprofit organization with a mission to promote “an innovative, values-based approach to peacebuilding, guided by the vision of One Family under God.” GPF partners with government ministries, community and faith-based organizations and United Nations offices to develop and execute programs in 20 countries including Uganda.

Government of Uganda in partnership with Global Peace Foundation (GPF), Private Sector Foundation Uganda (PSFU), Interreligious Council of East Africa Secretariat and Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) were preparing for the Global Peace Leadership Conference 2018, a summit that attracted over 1000 participants from different parts of the world. The conference was held from 1st – 2nd of August 2018 in Munyonyo Resort Hotel Kampala, under the theme “Moral and Innovative Leadership: New Models for Sustainable Peace and Development”

Challenge

The summit draw a large number of participants including heads of state, ambassadors, religious leaders, youth and women. The conference was a major milestone for the Global Peace Foundation Uganda Chapter tasked with organizing the conference although it had no prior experience in organizing a conference of such a magnitude. The chapter had no mailing lists, which posed a challenge in the process of creating of awareness.

To ensure a success in the conference, GPF required a guest registration system, participant mobilization and content mobile applications. The mobile applications were required by the organization for purposes of registration, interaction of guests and provision of all necessary information relevant for the conference.

Solution

A dedicated website was developed for the conference. Conference Social media channels including Facebook and Twitter were further set up.

Android and IOS mobile applications were developed for the organization with capabilities of guest registration, interaction and access to all necessary information relevant for the conference.

Staff collected relevant emailing data from the field. The data collected from the field had to be cleaned for generating invitation letters and mailing.

Results

The Global Peace Leadership Conference 2018 was generally well organized as per the expectation of GPF Uganda. Of interest to the participants was the mobile applications and its various features. The conference was successfully conducted as expected as well.
